Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread🫓🍷

Pesach for Hebrew Year 5784 begins in the Diaspora at sundown on Monday, 22 April 2024 and ends at

nightfall on Tuesday, 30 April 2024.

Passover (Hebrew: פֶּסַח Pesach) commemorates the story of the Exodus, in which the ancient Israelites

were freed from slavery in Egypt. Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan in the Jewish

calendar, which is in spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and is celebrated for seven or eight days. It is

one of the most widely observed Jewish holidays.

This first day of Passover continues from the reading of Shabbat Hachodesh. Now that the Israelites have observed the first

Passover, in a sense, the first Seder (Ex 12: 1 – 20), events climax. Our special portion describes how now Israel needs to

prepare for the Destroyer (G-d’s agent) to take retribution on Egypt by killing the first born. They are now to take hyssop

and dab blood on the lintels of their doorposts to escape that action.

And this, of course, is the precursor of the Shema telling us to bind it as a sign on our doorposts for generations to come.

Pesaj para el año hebreo 5784 comienza en la diáspora al atardecer del lunes 22 de abril de 2024 y finaliza al anochecer del

martes 30 de abril de 2024.

Pascua (hebreo: פֶּסַח Pesaj) conmemora la historia del Éxodo, en el que los antiguos israelitas fueron liberados de la

esclavitud en Egipto. La Pascua comienza el día 15 del mes de Nisán en el calendario judío, que cae en primavera en el

hemisferio norte, y se celebra durante siete u ocho días. Es una de las fiestas judías más observadas.

Este primer día de Pesaj continúa con la lectura de Shabat Hajodesh. Ahora que los israelitas han observado la primera

Pascua, en cierto sentido, el primer Seder (Éxodo 12: 1 – 20), los acontecimientos llegan a su clímax. Nuestra porción especial

describe cómo ahora Israel necesita prepararse para que el Destructor (el agente de Di-s) tome represalias contra Egipto

matando a sus primogénitos. Ahora deben tomar hisopo y frotar sangre en los dinteles de sus puertas para escapar de esa

acción.

Y esto, por supuesto, es el precursor del Shemá que nos dice que lo atemos como una señal en los postes de nuestras puertas
